I saw this group at City Gardens in beautiful Trenton, NJ. At one point, one of the brothers was drinking a bottle of whisky or some other liquor openly onstage. He eventually wandered offstage, and the show continued without him. A few songs later, the other brother wondered aloud, "And just where is that brother of mine?" One of my favorite memories of City Gardens...

I'm with you, Matt. It seems that the US labels "rush" to put out the "Deluxe Sets" with very little thought as to the quality of the content (and maybe the quantity...) and beaucoup thought to their bottom line ($$$$$$$$$$$...). It's as though the UK (and other) labels treasure the works of the musicians they serve, as well as appreiciate the audience to whom they deliver. Sadly, I don't believe we can sam the same about the vast majority of US labels...

This is why I have said for years that Blu-Ray should be used to make each and every l.p. into a box set like the Freddie Mercury one released in the year 2000 called "The Solo Collection" in terms of packaging with ten c.d.s and two d.v.d.s. They should include remastering, 5.1, unreleased tracks such as alternative versions of songs, demos, outtakes, instrumentals, remixes, interviews new and old, as well as the short promotional films (music videos), making ofs, recording ofs, filmed interview new and old, and tons of photos including exciting new artwork. Paul McCartney and others seem to have done some of these things and I have not seen the books but it seems as though they could have been much more extensive in both the content in the books and unreleased features (tracks; film). I have been talking about this for years and everyone's like, "Ohhh no we can't have anything like that happen!". It is very true that the idea of figuring out how to sell such things would be a big problem. But relying on the public to steal their music through downloads doesn't seem to be the answer either, does it?

It's always been the case, though, hasn't it?

The UK always had 2-CD single releases filled with treasure troves of b-sides, where you could rarely find even one CD release for the same single in North America.

Japan has always had its share of albums and EPs that were only available there, or exclusive bonus tracks. And their discs sound better too.

I've always found myself importing because I can't find what i'm looking for here. It's certainly not a melomaniac or collector's market here... :/

I buy as much, if not more music from Amazon.UK than I do our Amazon. The prices plus shipping costs are actually cheaper than buying the same product as an import. I buy a ton of Deluxe Editions. I recently purchased Big Country's The Crossing and I purchased all of the Queen remasters, which means I had them months before they were available in the US. I will be purchasing the T.Rex box and there are 3 Dio Deluxe Editions coming too. I think the record companies in the US are missing the boat, but I guess that is also why they are dying.

It has always been thus - the UK (and The Netherlands and Germany too) have always honoured music of all types by keeping albums on their available lists. If you want a CD, always check Amazon UK or, in my opinion, the best search and order company out there, CDS (Compact Disc Services) out of Dundee Scotland. If it is getable, then you can get it. Another great place is EBay UK - amazing what you can find used there. Most of the larger labels in the USA have lost the love of music and want nothing more than profit. No label in the world can operate without a profit, but the Europeans have found that if they press it, they will come. So Matt, you are not in any way wrong about what is going on.

I'm not sure about the "deeper love" but whomever makes decisions as to what's worth releasing and what isn't, it's clear that the UK companies are willing to put things out with a lower profit margin. In the US the motto seems to be if you can't make a million dollars it isn't worth doing.

Yessongs is the one I go back to. (Please, when will they go back and fix the sound on this thing) I really think they really bring a vitality to these these songs in concert.

The bass thing Chris Squire does on "And You And I "(bada bada bump bump, ba bada.... bum), has blown me away for close to 40 years.

Definately an underated band but they always had that "love 'em or hate 'em" thing going against them. The rock and alternative gang thought they were too "pop" and the "pop" crowd didn't get it. In the mid-80's they got played a lot in alternative clubs alongside of Siouxsie and the Cure which sort of got them stuck with the "goth" tag but I always thought they were more "glam" than anything else.

I saw the band with both brothers in the 80's and with just Jay in the 90's and both shows were good but of course the band was fine when Michael left. It's too bad the legal disputes over the band name have all but made it impossible to see Jay tour as Gene Loves Jezebel again and I don't think we'll ever see a reunion with both brothers.
