This energetic debut self-release by punk-rock band, Zelazowa is a well-produced collection of songs that subscribe to several elements of Rock. First and foremost, they are adherents to the raucous power of Punk. Listen closer and you can hear the structure of song that reveals a deeper side to the band. With better than average playing skills, Zelazowa is a tsunami of Rock in the purest sense of music.
Elephants on a Mousehunt is an engaging release with excellent songs like “Autumn” reminiscent of Linkin Park on Red Bull. “Boneyard Destination” is a guitar-strong (with leads everywhere) song that is sweat-inducing. “Fade Too” is quite a powerhouse on its own two feet. “Baby Blue (Listening to the Earth Shift)” has a hint of T-Rex in its DNA. “Numbers” reminds me a bit of The Music, if you remember that young band from more than a few years back. “Like Swine for Words” has a twist of Cheap Trick power-pop in the recipe.
With many independent bands producing their own music (God bless ‘em), Zelazowa is one who deserves to ascend higher than the regional interest. Unfortunately, the history of Rock is rife with such talent that never gets the attention deserved. Their debut, released after their EP (Polymorph), is a work of uncompromised maturity and is deserving of a spot in your library. I recommend highly that you check them out at their MySpace page (accessible by clicking through on the MySpace button).
Elephants on a Mousehunt is a 4-star album and deserves your attention.
