The recent release of Anonymous by, CIAM represent an international band that is deeply involved in the art of musical experimentation. Using such forerunners as Velvet Underground and Radiohead, who has merged their music with art, as a template of sorts, CIAM has created a highly enjoyable album of songs that refer back to Radiohead and Joy Division. From the first song on their new album (“Here I Am”), you recognize a sense of darkness and moodiness. From there is it a jump into eleven more tracks of depth that won’t shake after one listen.
The band has deliberately deemphasized themselves in order to draw better attention to the music exclusively. They would rather the music stand out and speak to you, and it does just that. With a revered set of recognizable influences, Anonymous takes an approach of multi-cultural influences, a respect for ‘80s English music (Joy Division, etc), and a love of art blended music (Radiohead), and creates an album that is fascinating and sure to be talked about.
It is well worth your time to go to their growing MySpace page and listen to a few of the songs there. AND…you can download the album for free. See their website for more details. |
