| May 01 2002 Notables Cher has announced that this summer's tour will be her last. She has decided to retire and enjoy life. Good for her. She has had a great career and for her to have come to grips with the 'fame thing' shows a remarkable amount of resolve.....Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music/Solo fame has begun plans for a Euro tour beginning in May. Keep a watch for this one.....New review of Wishbone Ash's excellent "Bona Fide" is now posted.....For Savoy Brown fans, MCA is releasing, on their '20th Century Masters: Millennium Collection' stamp, a single disc representation of the band encompassing their varied lineups. It ain't a boxed, but it ain't a bad selection either. The price sure is right. May 02 2002 Notables The funeral was held today for Left Eye Lopes of TLC. It was attended by thousands of fans as well as the family and friends. Lisa, you will be missed.....Just the kinda junk I like to ignore but will list here anyway because of the slow news. Kylie Minogue has split with her boyfriend. Ohhh mannn..I can't believe I wrote this....................MTV has moved up their Video Music Awards to avoid being too near the Sept 11 date. It will now be broadcast in August on the 29th, again in NYC.....Great news, so good that it gets to be put in the Planned Release section of this site to remind us. Jane's Addiction's upcoming, entitled 'Hypersonic' is expected to be released in the fall. Let's watch for that one.....Rush has extended their tour by ten dates.....Joe Satriani releases 'Strange Beautiful Music' in June on the 25th with guest Robert Fripp. I think I'd like to hear this one.....David Byrne starts an 18 date Euro run beginning June 8th.....Columbia/Legacy will release a live Simon & Garfunkel set, "Live From New York City 1967,"in July.....A cornered Michael Stipe has acknowledged that REM is working on a new set of music. They also hope to tour in support it, something they did not do with "Reveal". A shame considering the magic U2 worked on their marketing.....Friday night, on Jay Leno's Tonight Show , history will be carved as Paul McCartney will be the only guest on the show......The Rolling Stones will make an announcement on Tuesday to officially alert the world to it's upcoming tour. Watch here for details.....and it looks like June 6th will be the date set for PMcCartney and his Heather to tie the knot...... Off to see if there is a clandestine showing of "Spiderman" at our ultracool Edwards21 in Irvine.....A last note, Gladyss Patches will be the new 'Featured Band' shortly. Ramblings I just wanted to alert folks to the 20th anniversary of the death of one of rock's greatest critic, Creem's Lester Bangs. He was an incredible influence in my life along with the great Ira Robbins of Trouser Press. the anniversary was actually on the 30th of April so I'm a bit late. Regardless, Lester...ROCK ON!!!! Also, please check out the web site of one of the great rock magazines ever produced. It has an incredible archival section to look back on with a Table of contents and fantastic cover photos. I'm looking forward to seeing them grace the stands once again. I WILL be a subscriber. May 03-05 2002 - Weekend Edition Note: Spiderman Rocks!! A short note on the CD contest. New review of Elvis Costello's "when i was cruel" is posted. Dive right in. Ramblings Several nice pieces today. Wishbone Ash sent out their newsletter today with our review at the top. Needless to say, hits jumped..which is great. I love new company. I was also proud that WBA felt that strongly to include that review in the newsletter. Another item, a possible Savoy Brown/Wishbone Ash tour in the US? That's what the newsletter hinted at. And you know I will be there. The pairing of that bunch will be nothing short of rockin!!! Remember, earlier in the week, I said that I have the Wishbone Ash CD, "Bona Fide" to give away to some lucky person. Here's how we're gonna do it. Since I'm in need of folks' Desert Island Discs, I'm going to do this. The 10th (or closest to it) email that I get with a full set of 10 albums will receive the new and unwrapped CD of Wishbone Ash's "Bona Fide". The contest starts now! No Spiderman last night due to some studio contractual obligations but you can bet I got my tix for a GIANT screening of the film. It's shown on the IMAX screen in an enhanced mode. Notables It takes all kinds of people. A 19 year old "fan" threw a bag of cement powder towards Shakira in AussieLand at a mall. She was unhurt although several real fans were covered in the dust and had to medically treated..... Cool news from MTV for the MTV Awards. Jack Black of Tenacious D and filmland will be host along with the Vampire Slayer, Sarah Michelle Gellar. Now that will be fun. Next...Jack Black hosting the Academy Awards?.....The cancelled dates for the Creed will NOT be made up but is expected to do a summer tour to 'make up' the difference.....Remember the pooch belonging to the Osbournes that turned up missing? Well, the dog and family are reunited. Don't know how but its a closed chapter now. Congrats Kelli.....While it's not confirmed as of yet, The Osbournes will return for a second season, possibly a third. Some of us cannot wait, and I have this info from reliable sources, for the uncensored DVD season set. Watch for that one.....Ani DiFranco will issue a new live CD and a DVD about her life. the DVD will be released June 11 while the CD wil be moved out in the fall.....A very cool website that details rock stars and their appearances on TV during the course of the day. I'll keep an eye on it but here is is for your perusal. Called MusicStation .....Congratulations to Neal Schon of Journey. His wife gave birth to a 7 lb baby girl named Aja on April 29th.....The BBC is reporting that Eminem's new CD may be technologically 'altered' to prevent ripping and therefore piracy.....Katie Cassidy, daughter of Keith Partridge..uhh, David Cassidy will record the single, "I Think I Love You", made famous by her dad many years before......On a final note, Jerry Lee Lewis's sister, Linda Gail Lewis, is pushing to reveal the name of a high profile rock star involved in a sexual discrimination case. This may be interesting as she states that the star in question is a legend who is very popular with a great reputation. Developing..... |
