| April 08 2002 Notables What's going on in the world of music.....Megadeth, a band that has been around for 20+ years has disbanded. It looks as if the Dave Mustaine, guitarist/leader has sustained an arm injury that prevents him from playing the instrument. The band says, No Dave, No Play.....REM's Peter Buck was acquitted of all that nastiness over a bad flight experience where he acted improperly as a result of booze and medicine.....Rob Zombie fills the vacated spot in Ozzfest left by the departure of Rage Against the Machine's new band featuring Chris Cornell.....Jackson Browne fans are going to get to see the elusive songwriter/singer in a solo and acoustic setting.....Bryan Ferry will release a new CD on May 21 called "Frantic". The cool thing about this one, and they're all cool, is that it will feature Brian Eno and other members of past lineups. Still would have been nice to get a new Roxy CD, new material of course.....David Bowie's new CD will absolutely rock. There are great guests that will play with Bowie such as Townshend and David Grohl. The CD, "Heathen", will release June 11.....Marilyn Manson is looking into a counter suit of the current lawsuit alleging that he not only provided the plaintiff's daughter with cocaine but encouraged her to return after she was driven safely home. Did I mention that the girl killed was Keanu Reeves girlfriend? In case you weren't aware of the breadth of the situation....and speaking of Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park has asked the Grotesque One to assist them in a remix. this is an area where MM really shines as he has helped many in their remix efforts.....Looks like Celine Dion's new CD has copy protection and fans are being warned NOT to play the CD on a PC lest it crash the machine. Bummer. Not that I would have, but guess who wouldn't buy one if I were so inclined.....BMG hits the news today with two sides. The first is that they want to outright buy Napster. The second? Promo CDs sent to critics, etc will contain copy protected CDs for testing..... A new U2 disc this fall will be a companion Greatest Hits package. covering the periods from 1991 - 2000. Check with Pollstar for deatils......That's it for tonight. Ramblings Well, I'm back from a great cruise to the Virgin Islands in the Caribbean on the beautiful Carnival Destiny. 7 days of great ..nothing... It was immensely relaxing and satisfying PLUS I went with great people. You can't beat it. Now... April 09 2002 Notables Not much today, unless you care about Eminem and his lawsuit settlement after he pulled a gun on someone.....Hoobastank finishes up their tour with 311 and immediately hops into the Incubus tour....Lollapalooza will be delayed yet another year.....These guys make me wonder if they make too much money. As reported in these pages earlier, Steven Tyler wants to go into space as well. Problem is that he needs 20 million bux to do it. And he don't make that much or, if he did, is very unwilling to part with it. And, like Lance Bass, needs corporate sponsors. How about if I throw in 20 bux and ask that they never come back in return. Sounds fair to me.....Green Day is readying a rarities CD for release later this year. And...that's it for tonight. News is, as I said earlier, boring. Come on you music stars, do something....Black Tape's "the scavenger bride" and Projekt's Audra with their "Going to the Theatre" comes out on April 23. Also, two volumes of Frank Zappa's "Threesome" will be released on Rykodisc. Neil Young's "Are You Passionate" is out today. Ramblings On my cruise to the Virgin Islands aboard the Carnival Destiny, we were fortunate to be entertained by Duke Daniels of Platters fame. His show was funny and well sung. This included a very beautiful, very moving rendition of 'Imagine' geared to the 9/11 incidents. I went up after the show to meet with him. He turned out to be a charming individual. I would love to see him do a show with a longer set. And, instead of the medley of Platters tunes, full versions. Hats off to Mr Daniels. April 10 2002 No Update today. I'm really sorry but it was such a busy day....but hey...I got the birthdays in!!! April 11 2002 Notables Congratulations to Sarah McLachlan who has given birth to a baby girl. Cigars for everyone......the Family of Notorious B.I.G. has sued the city of LA complaining that the city could have done more to prevent his murder. Perhaps we should all sue police all over the world contending the same thing. Hell, why stop there? Let's sue governments for casualties of war.....Abba has elected to not take advantage of a 1 billion dollar offer to perform for 100 concerts citing time constraints in the rehearsals and not wanting to disappoint fans. They turned down a billion bux?! Did I read that right? That's called stupidity.....Elton John wants more done to fight AIDS..OK!? Ramblings I'm off to watch the Seattle Mariners pound the Anaheim Angels in the fourth game of their series. I'm not a Mariners fan but if it is against the Angels, I'm all for it. I'm an avid White Sox fan and I do plan on being there in May for their only series in the LA/OC area. I'm in talks with an old friend of mine who is interested in writing articles for this site. The expansion plans are coming along nicely and the hits to this site are compounding as we go, thanks largely to exposure from reviews that have been written. Thanks John Grace...Look forward to having your input. If any one has a Desert Island Discs set that they want to contribute, I'm anxious to start changing out the old. Send them to mattrowe@musictap.net. |
